Trend Alert: Off-Shoulder

Trend Alert: Off-Shoulder

Seeing how this particular style appears so many times on the street, bare shoulders seems to be one of the season’s hottest trends. And by its feature on the Spring 2016 runway, seems like the trend is not going to get away anytime soon.

Many off the shoulder pieces can be spotted throughout fashion week, from J Crew to Edun, the designers presented so many different take on the style. But of course, being fashion, one idea could evolve into so many ways. Off the shoulder trend was not only presented in a traditional way, but also creatively, for example by pulling the neckline of a button up to one side to reveal one shoulder. Another take would seemingly be the shoulder cutouts – as seen on Proenza Schouler Spring 2016 runway, and many others.

To bring runway to the street, well, simple. Off-shoulder pieces are as flexible as any other clothing piece. The easiest to wear is obviously the dress. Pair it with sandals, sneakers, or heels, it’s a statement on its own. Playing with proportions can also be done by pairing cropped pieces with high waisted denim, for example. To look clean and polished white would be the perfect color choice due to its delicate but sharp characteristic, and for those who love to make statements wearing patterned or bright coloured pieces is the way to go.  Off-shoulder pieces also open doors to heavy accessories like big earrings or headpieces. Its structure allows the look to be balanced. Stacking many simple necklaces can also be done as well as wearing strappy top underneath the off-shoulder piece to accentuate the details.

The reason why the look is taking the world by a storm is probably the fact that it exposes the most flattering (and the slimmest) part of a woman’s body, the shoulders, collarbone, and neck. Off the shoulder pieces obviously fulfill women’s desire to look good. We are definitely obsessed.
