Nike is celebrating Air Max Day in a big way in 2016. The renowned swoosh is holding an event dubbed Air Max Con in the cities of New York, Tokyo and Hong Kong. And if you’re wondering what to expect, here’s the description straight from the Swoosh, “this multi-day sneaker convention will bring sneaker lovers together on an epic journey through the heritage, design and innovation story of Air Max. Step into the shoes of a designer, meet the Masters of Air and share your experience with the sneaker community.”
This year’s Nike Air Max Day which will be held on March 26 is gearing up to be the largest-ever international celebration of the iconic sneaker family yet, marking 29 years since its existence. And this first ever Air Max Con will be the perfect mix of tradition, design and creativity inherent in the Air Max line. For Hong Kong’s own Air Max Con is opens today, March 23 and up until 27 at the historic Fringe Club. The building’s distinctive colonial architecture has been converted into a four-level multicolored museum of sorts for the Air Max. The interior is separated into several sections which showcases the most prized sneakers of several prominent collectors; Sneaker Studio, which dissects the design processes of the original Air Max silhouettes; H-T-M Kitchen, where visitors can design their own HTM-approved NIKEiD sneakers; and Vote Back section, where sneakerheads can vote on a historic Air Max model to be put back into production.
