Hussein Chalayan Spring/Summer 2016

Hussein Chalayan Spring/Summer 2016

While static and monotonous presentation are quite a common habit during fashion week, it is not what to expect when Hussein Chalayan is the mastermind behind the show you’re watching. Known for his innovative design, he astonishes once again through his ready to wear Spring/Summer 2016 collection.

Collaborating with Swarovski, the designer showcased 59 Cuban inspired pieces which illustrates a shift that happened in the country. This theme can be seen in the military inspired shapes, palm tree patterns, and even more elaborately, the designer incorporated Cuban map to adorn some pieces in his collection. “That was to represent the transformation of a militant kind of situation [in Cuba] to a more playful one,“ as quoted from the designer himself. Two dresses, however, act as main pieces of the show by further depicting the underlying theme. These white military-themed pieces were worn by two models as they stood under pouring water, which soon dissolve the dress to reveal two crystal encrusted dresses underneath – a transformation, beautifully represented in such a show-stopper moment.

With an established reputation as a designer with ingenious works, it can be said that the show was – once again– brilliantly executed. What the designer is going to come up for his next collection is surely worthy of your anticipation.
