Q : Why did you decide to create the brand? What are the roots and inspiration of its origin?
A : We both always drawn into designs, arts, and drawing since we were kids. From those similarities, we share the same interest and vision in fashion. Also, it’s always fun and exciting to run the process in making a collection, assembling the fabric scraps, and get drowned into the concept.
Q : Why did you name the brand Monday to Sunday?
A : The idea comes from our belief for wearing the ideal outfit for day to night time, for casual to semi-formal occasion, from Monday to Sunday, but still in a practical way. (We want our clothes to be) easy and functional for everyday use.
Q : What does your brand stand for?
A : Monday to Sunday represents a playful daily wear yet wearable design with function and comfort.
Q : When did the brand launch? Who started it and how has it been evolving?
A : Monday to Sunday established in 2009, with the very same designers/ creative directors, Mellyun Xing and Dita Addlecoat. It started from the second Brightspot event and we evolve from there. We got offered a space at Level One Grand Indonesia and a few Dept. stores in Jakarta. Afterwards we’ve participated in several fashion weeks locally (Jakarta and Surabaya) and outside the country (Bangkok and Singapore previously.
Q : Do the founders have background in fashion?
A : We both graduated with BA (Honours) with 3-4 years in Fashion Design course. For Dita it was a happy accident to be a fashion designer, she always takes interests in visual art, as for me (Mellyun) I think i always have an interest in drawing and objects of design since i was a kid.
Q : What is your characteristic as a brand and what makes your label stands out?
A : We try to combine the essence of street wear with current trends and we twist them with playful sense of daily wear. Sometimes we often get inspired from the place we travel to. So there’s always something different every season. To sum it up, Monday to Sunday is a daily wear with a twist of playfulness but still comfortable.
Q : Tell us about your newest collection, and how it is translated into the pieces?
A : The latest collection is called Maze of dream. It is about a bold, quirky girl dreaming about a land where everything is made of paper patch. The buildings, the roads, and even herself is a paper doll inside her dream – a place where everything is possible. That translates to a lot of patch details with contrast color and block cuttings. For example a pant bottom layered with silhouette of another pant bottom. something like playing with your paper doll outfits, you patch and layer it over with other objects.
Q : What is your future aspiration for the brand and yourself as a creator?
A : We aspire for Monday to Sunday to evolve as much as we can. We want to maintain the best quality for our customers, keep up with this world trend and spread Monday to Sunday label to the world, both locally and internationally.
