An earthy installation that mix lights, shadows and fashion was presented in an art gallery in central Stockholm last monday. It was the launch of Craig Green new sportswear capsule collection in collaboration with sports fashion brand Björn Borg.
Models wearing cream and black of some quilted garments were accessorized with convertible backpacks as they stood on piles of dirt. Green explained that the neutral palette was inspired by the idea of shadows. Award-winning London designer Craig Green has made a name for himself mixing minimal garments and dramatically sculptured body-pieces. This collection for Björn Borg marries the Green conceptual style with the function and performance of the Björn Borg heritage. “It has been thrilling and intriguing to create sportswear for both men and women. When the Björn Borg team asked if I was up for the challenge I just couldn’t resist. Mixing my own style with the utilitarian beauty of the Björn Borg heritage has resulted in a collection that I am very proud of” said Craig Green.
The use of fabrics that traditionally found in tennis gear, shown as a nod the company’s founder, Björn Borg — which is owned by the famous tennis player. Meanwhile, the circular elements echoed those in Green’s namesake collection, and recalled that of a tennis ball. Borg and Green, seems like a pair very well matched.
This collection marks the first time for Green to design womenswear, and it bears his utilitarian, military signature. The looks include padded trousers for men and women, performance running leggings and a lightweight technical raincoat with drawstring details, combining performance with fashionable sportswear in a conceptual mix. The collection will be sold globally, hitting stores in October 2016.
