Brewed from a partnership between Harry Grover of 40 Hands, Australia’s Five Senses Coffee, and the Spa Esprit Group, Common Man Coffee Roasters is the convergence of a bubbling bank of experience from the coffee cherry to the cup, encompassing a café, coffee bar, and wholesale roasting arm.
Named as such to pay tribute to the growers and drinkers of coffee – the common men, Singapore’s CMCR is about making coffee more accessible to them. As part of CMCR’s ongoing efforts to grow the coffee scene in Singapore, they conduct weekly public cupping sessions at the café, on Wednesdays from 2 to 3pm. The session is free and anyone is welcome to pick up a spoon and start slurping. Private sessions are also available. They also conduct barista training and coffee workshops.
The CMCR carries four house blends, they are the CMCR Espresso (complex, medium bodied & juicy with notes of cherry, distinct florals, sweet citrus and dark cocoa), 22 Martin (dark chocolate, heavy body, molasses, intense flavours, lingering aftertaste), Lucky Basterd (silky smooth body, juicy, dark fruit, plum and red grape), and Country Cousin (medium-heavy body, maple syrup, ripe dark fruit sweetness, dark chocolate with a long aftertaste).
The menu at CMCR is also regularly updated and they offer an exciting all-day breakfast – the Organic Eggs Benedict, Turkish Common Man Breakfast, and Common Man Full Breakfast are among favorites. However, the food here falls into the higher price range. That being said, weekends at the CMCR are still packed, and that show just how good they are.
