Another high fashion brand has readily jumped into the wearable-tech section. Catering to the needs of fellow urbanites whose life-span extends only as long as the life of their gadget’s battery, Junya Watanabe creates a trench coat which also doubles as a phone charger—and really, it doesn’t get more convenient than that for big city people these days.
The COMME des GARÇONS alumnus creates a trench coat with four solar panels on the back and two on the front which allows its wearers to be able to charge their smartphone as they go. The design itself is staying true to his unique aesthetic featuring olive colors with details like shoulder patch and multiple-button arm closing. The jacket is scheduled to hit retailers from July 2016, priced at €2,000.
While it’s been told that it took a considerable time out in the sun to fully charge a phone, we see this as a slow but sure journey towards convenience and can only look forward to more wearable techs in the future similar to this one. A Wi-Fi jacket would be extremely convenient, no?
