Dear readers, if you’re reading this, congratulations! You’ve probably been facing one the most dreadful of days, but somehow managed to make it this far. First day of work/school after a holiday is by no means easy. We know. Been there, done that. We also understand that it takes an abundant amount of willpower just to drag yourself out of bed and get ready. To make things easier, we have formulated five easy ways for you to get your spirit back, because, really… we understand.
- ASSOCIATE FIRST DAY WITH NICE THINGS
If it’s difficult to find any good reason to jump out your bed today, make one! Plan a delightful breakfast a night before, set an outfit around the shoes you just bought on holiday, or watch a funny video you can joke about with your friends and co-workers by lunchtime. A little good thing to start the day will kick it up a notch for the otherwise unpleasant day.
- BLAST YOUR FAVORITE TUNE
Music is known as an efficacious mood shifter and it is one way to help you set for the day. Immerse yourself in a relaxing tune if you’re feeling anxious to face the first day. But if you’re feeling rather uninspired, pump up your favorite beats on the way to work. Sing a long, and dance to it if you feel like it! You can also listen to the melodic guitar of your musician crush to help you get through the day.
- CHEER PEOPLE UP
Everyone probably feel just as blue as you are on their first day back after the holidays, and your loved ones is no exception. Be the first person who cheers them up by sending some funny motivational memes or inside-jokes-infused ‘you can do it’ texts to revive their spirit. They will be delighted to know that you’ve been thinking of them and noticing their struggles. Knowing that your action make them feel better, will work impressively as your own mood-booster.
- SET YOUR EYES ON THE PRIZE
Dreaming of going on a vacation or a concert of your most cherished idol? You might not be able to afford them unless you drag yourself to work or school today. Imagine how accomplished you will feel if your efforts today turn fruitful and you’re able to achieve them—hopefully in the near future. Set your desktop and phone screen accordingly to visualize them more easily.
- FORCE A SMILE…?
If all else fail… then smile!—even if it feels forceful at first. According to facial feedback hypothesis, a facial expression that closely resembles the pattern of muscles that are used to express happiness triggers a positive emotional response in your brain. In that sense, you will feel instantly happier by tricking your brain that you are. After all, how motivated you feel today is in your control. And if you somehow managed to make it through this day, you are a champion already! Reward yourself with a good night sleep to revive your spirit for the next day. Good luck!
